I’m Tess, a new web developer and former craftsperson. This site is a testament to my journey from carpentry to coding.
More than anything I love bringing unique, creative concepts to life. I spent 15+ years in the arts and trades, hand crafting everything from boats to bed frames.
I’m passionate about the design-build process no matter what the medium, and find real joy in collaborative creation.
A little background
I’ve worn a lot of hats in life – from sculptor to furniture maker to design teacher to scenic carpenter to builder of boats, and sometimes houses. A few years ago my spine decided, in rather dramatic fashion, that it was done lifting things. In the boredom of recovery a friend turned me on to the idea of making websites, so I downloaded a gamified coding app, and I was hooked. Who knew design-build isn’t just for craftspeople? Career pivot, here I come!
I’m currently earning an associate degree in Web Development and will graduate in 2024, eager to contribute to a more accessible, equitable web.
In my spare time I tinker around in the garden, make pottery when my body will allow, and pursue the perfect buffalo chicken wing recipe. If you’ve made it to this sentence and also have an appreciation for the world’s greatest food item, I’ll offer two pearls of wisdom: Kenji Lopez Alt is a genius, and your favorite restaurant ranch dressing recipe is just buttermilk, “heavy” mayo, and Hidden Valley powder.
