Creativity

One of the best aspects of becoming a web developer are the endless possibilities you have for creativity. You can create whatever you want, about anything you want at any time you want. Whether you want to showcase a hobby, or you are an artist and want to build your own portfolio site. Whatever inspires you, having the skillset and knowledge of web development is an incredibly powerful and freeing tool to express it.

Reach and History

With the rise of the internet, we are now able to reach audiences never possible before. It wasn’t long ago that if you wanted to reach a large population of people, your options were severely limited. Broadcast technologies such as radio and television gave us these abilities but the access was severely restricted for the average person. Unless you were an influential celebrity, official, or quite wealthy these options were just simply not available. Now with the internet and some basic web development skills, you can reach just about anyone on earth. Not only that but you can target very specific demographics and make your content quicky searchable and accessible. Having lived during some of the early days of the internet it has been a really cool journey to watch the technological possibilities grow and to be able to witness such a revolutionary time in history.

Job Market

For me the primary reason for being an aspiring web developer are the doors that these skills open in the job market. Having worked in the automotive industry for nearly 15 years I was ready for a change. Web development has been and continues to be one of the most lucrative and fastest expanding job markets available. The flexibility of being able to work from home, have flexible hours, or chase entrepreneurial ambitions makes learning web development an incredibly freeing and valuable skillset. The options and possibilities are nearly endless and I feel there are roles and jobs within web development that can suit nearly anyone.

Summary

In summary there are 3 main reasons I love being a Web Developer.

  • The creative possibilities.
  • The endless reach and rich history.
  • The Jobs

As mentioned previously, the possibilities for creativity within web development are endless. Now with the power and flexibility of themes within WordPress you can make and personalize sites of all types. See my post Considerations when selecting a WordPress Theme for more information on themes and some things to keep in mind when selecting one for your site.

I enjoyed reading your thoughts on why you love web development. I can relate – as someone who is not a digital native, it’s been a wild ride to see how the Internet has evolved.
