“Simplicity is the soul of efficiency.”

When I decided to embark on my journey as a programmer, I was working as a regional manager in the food industry and wanted desperately to get out. After hearing me complain about my job many, many times a friend decided to steer me in the direction of web development. I was initially unsure about it, but soon discovered why it was the right move for me. When I think about why I love being a web developer, three words come to mind: technology, collaboration, and challenge.
As a millennial, I have always been around technology and have been fascinated by our rate of technological advancement over the years. Getting to work with computers and do amazing things with programming is rewarding. The feeling of creating something people will use is very rewarding.

Working on teams with others and collaborating to achieve a shared goal has been a part of me since I was playing soccer as a kid. Being able to receive and share knowledge with others is really rewarding and that is a huge part of the programming community. The fact that there are enormous amounts of open-source resources that people have been willing to share for the greater benefit of all helps restore my faith in humanity. Community forums always at your fingertips to share information is very helpful as well.
While working in the food industry and working on the same things every day over and over, my brain began to feel like it was no longer getting the proper exercise. Jumping into web development, I quickly learned just how challenging it can be, and how rewarding it can be to overcome the challenges. My mind is constantly being exercised and there is so much information to be gathered to build increasingly complex and amazing things, so I never get bored.
