More than 40 years in the bicycling business. Me and my husband Tom specialize in creating custom bicycles. We fabricate many of the frames and wheels at our shop Vicious Cycles in Cary, North Carolina. We create bikes to fit a client’s specific needs, like catering to an injury, an unusual height, or for riding extremely long distances. Along the way, we have seen the impact e-commerce has had on local retail, including the bicycle industry. Instead of competing with the dominance of Amazon and chain stores, we shifted from a product-centric company to a customer-centric service, specializing in one-of-a-kind bikes. We've grown a lot in the past year, but I can't tell you why we're actually growing. Sure, every time someone walks in the door, we give them the best possible experience and we really do make them happy. But why do more new people walk in each day? I think because of our reasonable price.
