When I first started with web development, I always sought to make cool and creative websites. However, after some time, I realized simplicity is best. There is a time for creativity but for the audience’s sake, it is best to keep things simple. Unless the website caters to a very specific group of people, it is likely getting different people from different backgrounds on the website. Thus, the website should target the general audience.
A simple website means that anyone can use it and can use it with great ease. Doing something less than simple can turn people off to the site. It is imperative to keep in mind that most internet users go to websites to find the information they need. Once they do, they will leave. If your website is complicated, then they will probably leave without the information. So, always consider the general audience.
When building a simple website, things to keep in mind are navigation and design. Since most people are already seeking information when they go on your website, you will need to make this information noticeable. This is achieved from the navigation. Your navigation should be understood immediately by the user. Don’t just assume they will get it because you did. Make it clear to the broad audience. Anything confusing will repel users off your site. Design is also important to consider. If you are selling merchandise for both males and females and your website is very girly and picky, this could turn off the male audience. Again try to pick a color pattern for the general audience.
